Sri Lalitha Trishati Namavali Stotra- 300 Names of Lalitha Devi From Brahmanda Purana

Lalita Trishati Namavali has taken from Brahmanda purana. Sri Lalitha Trisathi contains Pancha Dasa Akshari (15 letter) Manthra Bheejams.

Though the God Vishnu, Shiva and Brhama are the most important Gods in Hinduism, there is a very large school of thought which gives primacy to .the Shakthi (literally the strength) which is the female aspect controlling even these gods. The followers of Shakthi cult were called Shakteyas. Among this group rose a peculiar group of sages who were called Tantrics. They believed in Shakthi only and worshipped her using a strange method which was not usual for example worshipping a virgin, doing yoga sitting on a corpse and so on. They preferred acts rather than words mostly.

To them the names of Goddess had some divine meaning, which would give them supernatural powers. They also believed in animal and even human sacrifice. From them rose voluminous religious literature dedicated to Shakthi . In these books sounds were considered extremely important. Chanting each sound was believed to result in different powers or benefits. The most important ancient books that they followed were the Devi Bhagavatam (The story of Devi), Devi Mahatmyam (from Markandeya purana), Lalitha Sahasranama and Lalitha Trishathi.(both from Brhamanda purana).

These are contained in the chapter called Lalithopakyanam. This entire chapter is in the form of conversation between Hayagreeva  and Agasthya, who is one of the important saptha rishis. Agasthya is also the saint who is supposed to have originated the Tamil language by writing its first book of grammar. He was married to Lopamudra. It is believed she became the holy river Kaveri that made South India fertile.

Among the stotras in this chapter are the Lalitha Sahasra namam (the thousand names of Lalitha) and Lalitha Trishathi (the Lalitha three hundred.) Lalitha is the name of the goddess meaning, she who can be easily attained or She who is simplicity personified. Adi Shankara has written a bhashyam (explanatory text to Laltha Sahasra namam.). He also has contributed to Shakteya literature by writing a book called Soundarya Lahari.

In the Lalithopakyanam chapter, Hayagreeva teaches Agasthya the famous Lalitha sahasranamam. But Agasthya does not get satisfied because he feels that his teacher has not taught him one another important stotra. Hayagreeva hesitates because that one stotra is extremely secret. Then Lalitha herself appears before Hayagreeva and asks him to teach Agasthya, the most secret of the stotras called Laltha Trishati. She also tells him that this is the Sarva Poorthikara stotra meaning “that stotra which completes everything.” Then Hayagreeva thanks his disciple for giving him an opportunity of seeing the Goddess Lalitha herself and teaches him The Lalitha Trishathi stotra.

This stotra recounts the 300 names of the goddess. Twenty names each start from each of the fifteen letters which form the Pancha dasakshari manthra (the 15 letter manthra).

    This  Lalitha Devi manthra is

    Ka- aa-ee-la-hrim

    Ha –sa-ka-ha-la-hrim

    Sa-ka-la-hrim

The first five letters (vaag bhava Koota) given in the first line originate from the Mooladhara (Literally basic support or the support which is the root) which is situated below the vertebral column. This is supposed to house the baser instincts in man. This manthra (entire first line) is supposed to rise from Mooladhara like the fire in time of deluge and touch the anahatham (the basis for food)

The second six letters (Kama raja koota) start from the anahatham with the power and brilliance of billions of sun and touches the Agna chakra(Literally the wheel of command).

The last four letters (Shakthi koota) starts from the Agna chakra like the soothing light of billions of moon and touches the Lalata Madhya(The center of the forehead). This series of sounds is supposed to start from the baser instincts (Compared to a coiled serpent sleeping in The Mooladhara) lights one by one the Stomach , the chest and travels through the Sushmna Nadi and blossoms the unopened bud of the Lotus with thousand petals(sahasraram) in the brain. Once this is opened the Yogis believed that there is no knowledge in earth and heaven that you did not know.

Each line of Panchadasakshari manthra is considered equivalent to one Gayatri.

Because of this the chanting of Lalitha Trishathi is supposed to lead to great benefits to the Sadhaka. It is supposed to give him all that is needed.

Is this Sri Lalitha Trishati Namavali Needs Upadesam?

Most of the people says Sri.Lalitha Trisathi contains Panca Dasa Akshari (15 letter) Manthra Bheejams (Seed letters) Without proper Initiation (Upadesam) it may give Negative results.

Kadga maala Stothram is also a part of Sri Vidhya Upaasana needs Upa Desam (Intiation). In My opinion and I believe in all kirtanas,Stotras and mantras are written for human or one who can recite it. As per the story of lalita sahsranama and trishthi strotra , it is for every one. Both are given to human kind through agastya and hayagreeva.

Why it is so important? It give us all goodness. As it is praising mother, you dont worry about guru. Just love your mother. try to learn it with utmost love and devotion.ask her about its meaning. Gradually you will feel the changes.

Just think mother herself is your guru. Don’t waste time to find a guru. Guru will reach you when you really need it.

Shri Lalitaa Trishati Stotra Phala Shruti:

Chanting Lalita Trishati even once sets the mind-set straight and clean. The more one chants or even hears, the more one takes steps forward. Bhagavan Hayagriva assured Agasthya Muni that by chanting Lalita Trishati even once would help to attain peace of mind. Its practice without desires transforms the heart, mind and Soul. Fulfillment follows as a consequence, for the Decider is Lalita Herself. As one sows, so one reaps!

People worship Lord Satyanarayana, an extremely benevolent form of Lord Vishnu, and observe Satyanarayana fasting on Purnima day.

Many communities observe one day fast on Purnima Tithi according to their Kul Parampara. Kul Paramparas are family traditions passed from generation to generation.

    Akshaya Tritiya

    Akshaya Tritiya Pooja Timings:
Akshaya Tritiya in 2025 falls on Wednesday, April 30. This day is considered highly auspicious for initiating new ventures, making significant purchases, and performing various rituals.

Key Timings for Akshaya Tritiya 2025:
Tritiya Tithi Begins: 5:31 PM on April 29, 2025
Tritiya Tithi Ends: 2:12 PM on April 30, 2025

    What is Akshaya Tritiya:

Akshaya Tritiya which is also known as Akha Teej is highly auspicious and holy day for Hindu communities. It falls during Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the month of Vaishakha. Akshaya Tritiya falling on a Rohini Nakshatra day with Wednesday is considered very auspicious. The word Akshaya (अक्षय) means never diminishing. Hence the benefits of doing any Japa, Yajna, Pitra-Tarpan, Dan-Punya on this day never diminish and remain with the person forever.

Akshaya Tritiya is believed to bring good luck and success. Most people purchase Gold on this day as it is believed that buying Gold on Akshaya Tritiya brings prosperity and more wealth in coming future. Being Akshaya day it is believed that Gold, bought on this day, will never diminish and would continue to grow or appreciate.

Akshaya Tritiya day is ruled by God Vishnu who is the preserver God in the Hindu Trinity. According to Hindu mythology Treta Yuga began on Akshaya Tritiya day. Usually Akshaya Tritiya and Parashurama Jayanti, birthday anniversary of 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, falls on the same day but depending on staring time of Tritiya Tithi Parashurama Jayanti might fall one day before Akshaya Tritiya day.

Vedic astrologers also consider Askshay Tritiya an auspicious day free from all malefic effects. As per Hindu Electional Astrology three lunar days, Yugadi, Akshaya Tritiya and Vijay Dashami don’t need any Muhurta to start or perform any auspicious work as these three days are free from all malefic effects.

    What is Mohini Ekadashi:

It is believed that the importance and significance of Mohini Ekadashi have been first explained by Lord Krishna to King Yudhishthira and by Saint Vasishtha to Lord Rama.

If a person observes a Mohini Ekadashi Vrat with utmost dedication and devotion then he receives many ‘punya’ or ‘good karmas” as its fruitful result.
The Punya received are equivalent to the one attained by donating a thousand cows, visiting pilgrimages, and performing yajnas.
It is also believed that devotees get free from the cycle of birth and rebirth and attain salvation by observing the fast of Mohini Ekadashi.
To know the detailed importance of Mohini Ekadashi, devotees can read the Surya Purana.

    What is Apara Ekadashi:

    Apara Ekadashi Thithi Timings:

In 2025, Apara Ekadashi falls on Friday, May 23.
Key Timings for Apara Ekadashi 2025:
Ekadashi Tithi Begins: 12:42 PM on May 22, 2025
Ekadashi Tithi Ends: 9:59 AM on May 23, 2025
Parana (Breaking Fast) Time: 5:26 AM to 8:11 AM on May 24, 2025
Dwadashi (12th Tithi) Ends: 7:20 PM on May 24, 2025

Parana means breaking the fast. Ekadashi Parana is done after sunrise on next day of Ekadashi fast. It is necessary to do Parana within Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi is over before sunrise. Not doing Parana within Dwadashi is similar to an offence.

Parana should not be done during Hari Vasara. One should wait for Hari Vasara to get over before breaking the fast. Hari Vasara is first one fourth duration of Dwadashi Tithi. The most preferred time to break the fast is Pratahkal. One should avoid breaking the fast during Madhyahna. If due to some reasons one is not able to break the fast during Pratahkal then one should do it after Madhyahna.

At times Ekadashi fasting is suggested on two consecutive days. It is advised that Smartha with family should observe fasting on first day only. The alternate Ekadashi fasting, which is the second one, is suggested for Sanyasis, widows and for those who want Moksha. When alternate Ekadashi fasting is suggested for Smartha it coincides with Vaishnava Ekadashi fasting day.

Ekadashi fasting on both days is suggested for staunch devotees who seek for love and affection of Lord Vishnu.

kiṁ tasya bahubhirmaṁtrai: kiṁ tasya bahubhirvratai: |
    namō nārāyaṇāyēti maṁtra: sarvārthasādhaka: |

Who ever does Naaraayana Ashtakshara mantra japa they need not chant other mantras, as all the phalaas (benefits), which can be derived from the other mantras can be had from this mantra only.

The Narayana upanishad talks about the greatness of the ashtakshara (eight syllabled) mantra of Lord Vishnu – Om Namo Narayanaya.

(Note- unfortunately this mantra is incorrectly written in many places including some temples, as Om Namo Narayana – missing the last syllable ‘ya’.)

The Narayana upanishad says the following about the ashtakshara mantra-Narayana Ashtakshari Mantra:

-This mantra is most sacred. It is the king of all mantras

-When recited, it gives health, long life, prosperity and attainment of Vaikunta (the abode of Vishnu, supreme consciousness)
-Recitation of this mantra grants liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

-One who recites this mantra in the morning becomes free of sins committed at night.
-One who chants this mantra at noon becomes free of the five great sins
-One~ who recites this at night becomes free of sins committed during the day.
-One who chants this mantra acquires the merit of studying all the Vedas
-One~ who recites this mantra attains oneness with Narayana

When to chant this Narayana Ashtakshari Mantra?

Usually after the japa of Gayatri Mantra, this has to be chanted.

Whether we can chant Narayana Ashtakshari Maha Mantra without guru upadesha?
No. Any mantra chanted without guru upadesha will have desired value. For Gayathri Mantra, Narayanashtakshara, Krishna Shadakshara, Sandhyavandana, Guru mantra, and all stotras, one must have guru upadesha invariably.

Who can chant this Narayana Ashtakshara Maha Mantra?

My Guru says that all people are free to chant the Om Namo Narayanaya and gain the benefits. There is absolutely no restriction based on caste, gender, race or anything else.

It is sad that some spiritual traditions restrict women and certain castes from chanting this mantra. The great sage Ramanuja climbed on top of a temple tower and loudly proclaimed this mantra to all, regardless of caste, creed or gender. Sadly some of the followers of this great liberal Guru now contradict his teaching and say that women and Hari-jans cannot chant this mantra. This is the result of the terrible ignorance of this kali yuga.

My Guru says that the recitation of a mantra creates the form of the deity associated with it. He says recitation of Om Namo Narayanaya creates the form of Narayana or Vishnu in the higher planes. Prolonged recitation of this mantra according to him, grants the darshan or vision of Lord Narayana.

Once again, all great Gurus who attained God praised this mantra and said it can be chanted by anybody and will grant liberation to all.

Also, just to mention, every mantra has six parts that are described as follows as per my Guru:

    1. Rishi who first ‘saw’ the mantra (mantras are ‘seen’ in meditation, not created). The Rishi of the ashtakshara mantra of Vishnu is the rishi Narayana (one of the twin rishis Nara-Narayana).
    2. Chandas or metre- the intonation in which the mantra is chanted. The metre of the ashtakshara mantra is Gayatri.
    3. Devata, deity of the mantra: the deity of ashtakshara is MahaVishnu or Narayana
    4. Beeja, seed syllable or essence of the mantra
    5. Shakti- the shakti or power of the deity/mantra
    6.  Kilaka- the ‘pin’ that plugs the ‘mantra chaitanya’ hidden in the mantra. Prolonged recitation of the mantra removs the kilaka or ‘pin’ and grants darshan of the ishta devata, the deity. Recitation of ashtakshara grants darshan of Lord Narayana.

Mantras are sacred ancient sounds vehicles for transformation which have been chanted and meditated on by yogis since primordial times. Furthermore, it is said that sacred mantras were first experienced by sages and yogis as spontaneous sounds heard during deep meditation state.

Even listening to these healing sounds regularly brings wellness and peace into the heart of practitioner. Each Sanskrit mantra is followed by the word peace (Shanti) 3 times, signifying peace at 3 different levels i.e, aadhyaatmika, is the peace at physical and mental level; peace or peace with 5 elements fire, water, earth, air and ether; and aadhidaivika, which is peace with God to defend us from fury of God and nature.
